Customers are being asked to be patient and abide by guidelines, as all remaining retail has opened across the country.

Some 280,000 retail staff are going back to work as non-essential shops re-opened their doors after being closed since Christmas.

Last week saw over 12,000 businesses re-open, after nearly five months of level five restrictions.

Hairdressers, click and collect retail services returned, as well as 'shopping by appointment' - which also saw 275,000 people make an advance booking with Penneys.

But from today the rest of retail is re-opening its doors.

Some people have been waiting in line since early morning to be the first in.

Henry McKean is in Navan Town Centre, Co Meath for Newstalk Breakfast.

Jack Brady, the manager of Jack & Jones, told him: "We're really, really excited just to see all of our very valued customers.

"We've been closed for a long time, so the anticipation has been building all week - just getting the store ready.

"It's been a very tough couple of months being closed, but now that we're back open we're just so excited just to get back into it.

"It doesn't suit everybody to shop online, so we're so, so happy to be able to welcome them back in.

"We just can't wait to help them build an outfit and look good again, and feel good.

These shoppers told Henry what they were most excited about.

"Clothes from Penneys and some lunch in Tesco", one teenager said.

Another teenager said: "It hasn't been open in ages, it's been ages, I just had to go in.

"I have school in a bit, so I'm not up that much earlier".

Another shopper said: "I needed to get socks - mine are ripped."

While another woman said: "It feels like getting back to normal, so that's always a good thing."

While one man, who told Henry he always comes in early to shop, said it was good to be able to go back into shops.

"A lot of it didn't make sense to me", he said.

And shopkeepers themselves have been just as enthusiastic.
