Irish naval vessel, the LÉ James Joyce, has rescued another 108 migrants off the coast of Libya.

The ship located the migrants in a rubber vessel 35 nautical miles north-west of Tripoli this morning and brought them on board.

The migrants received food and water, and were provided with medical treatment where required.

This summer it was announced that the Irish Naval Service had saved over 10,000 people in the Mediterranean since having been deployed in the area in May 2015.

The LÉ James Joyce has rescued more than 2,000 people in the Mediterranean this summer alone, including 400 people off the coast of Tripoli in earlier this week, and over 600 people off the coast of Libya in late August.
