An Irish man has been killed in an accident in Qatar.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that they are providing consular assistance to the family of the man, who is believed to be from Newry.

The man's girlfriend, who is believed to be from England was also killed in the accident. Two others were injured and are being treated in a Qatar hospital.

Both the deceased and his girlfriend were members of the Qatar GAA club, who led tributes on its Facebook page, mourning the loss of "two of our friends, two of our family."

A mass will be held at 7pm tomorrow in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Barwa.
