Pit bull-Dutch shepard mix Quasimodo has been named this year's world's ugliest dog.
The 10-year-old emerged victorious from the World's Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California on Friday. His owner, who traveled from Florida for the contest, will take home a cheque for $1,500.
Contestants are judged on first impressions, unusual attributes, natural ugliness, personality and audience impression.
Karen Spencer, marketing director for Sonoma-Marin Fair, which organizes the event, spoke to CNN:
"We aren't interested in lineage, it's the inner beauty and personality that shine in our World's Ugliest Dog contest," said Karen Spencer, marketing director for Sonoma-Marin Fair, which organizes the event.
The contest aims to encourage the adoption of dogs from shelters, where many of the contestants found their current owners.
