The former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern told Newstalk today that it would be Monday before a clear picture would emerge.
Mr Ahern told Pat Kenny that he thought it would be the "other side of St Patrick's Day" before any decision would be made on a government.
When questioned by Pat who Micheal Martin would consider talking to for a coalition, Mr Ahern said that he thinks he will talk to everyone.
He also stated that not having an Election in November was a fatal mistake for the coalition.
He said: "I think I'd do what Micheal said earlier this afternoon. He will go to the Dail on the 10th of March and seek support as leader.
"He obviously will consult widely between now and then, with all of the parties, all of the groups. I think he's made it clear that everyone that has been elected has a responsibility.
"I would imagine Micheal will consult with everybody."
