Olympian runner Nadia Power said she sometimes envies people who are able to enjoy the sport for its social side.
Ms Power joined Alive and Kicking with Clare McKenna to discuss the recent uptick in running clubs.
“To be honest, sometimes I do envy people enjoying that social side of running that I often have to miss with my own training,” she said.
“But now it’s such a good way to meet people.
“I think we’re all on our phones all the time, maybe on dating apps or just scrolling the whole time.
“It can actually be really hard to meet people in your 20s because people tend to have established friend groups and not step out of them too much.”

Ms Power said she will be hosting a 5k at this year’s Well Fest alongside founder of Sole Mates running club Aoibhinn Raleigh.
“It’s really just a social experience and making sure everyone runs together, I’m definitely not trying to run at a specific pace or anything,” she said.
“I just want to chat to as many people as possible and for as many people to feel included and discover running.”
According to Ms Power, run clubs can be the “perfect way to meet new people who have a similar routine to you”.
