Kevin Shortall's daughter has acute leukemia.

Kevin and his brother in law Peter Fitzpatrick are launching the “Our Childrens Health" campaign to try and improve the current situation relating to the review of medical cards.

It’s an online petition asking the government to change the 1970 health act that outlines that a child's medical card can only be given a medical card on a means basis. They say an automatic medical card should be given to children born with a long term illness.

On today's programme Jonathan spoke with Louise's dad Kevin. He told Jonathan applying for a medical card for their 7 year old daughter was harder than "applying for a mortgage".

Later on the programme he spoke to Labour Public Transport Minister Alan Kelly and he asked him his opinion of the removal of medical cards from children like Louise.
