Ingredients:
1 shot (33ml) of Irish whiskey e.g. Jameson, Powers, Paddys.
6 cloves
1 slice of lemon, cut in half
1 teaspoon of white/brown sugar
Boiling water
Optional:
1 star anise pod
1 cinnamon stick
Honey as a substitute for sugar
Method:
Place a spoon and boiling water into your glass to pre-heat. (The spoon will prevent the glass from breaking)
Add a clove into each triangular section of your half lemon and place it in the glass with the shot of whiskey.
Pour in boiling water to about the three quarter mark and add sugar if desired.
Et voila.
Top tip: Leaving your spoon in the glass helps to absorb the heat whilst holding.
We asked you, our Newstalk Facebook and Twitter followers how you would make the perfect hot toddy:
Newstalk Facebook:
Michael J O Sullivan Hot toddy is not of here - Powers and Paddy a no no! In the UK a Jameson. Mayfair restaurant in London = lemon, white sugar and cloves in a transparent tissue type bag. Out of London = Jameson, orange peel studded with cloves, brown or white sugar (your choice) and of course obviously hot water in both cases.
@newstalkfm Defo Jameson, I prefer white sugar (dissolves better), lemon & cloves.
