Holocaust memorial commemoration takes place in Dublin

A Holocaust Memorial commemoration gets underway in Dublin in an hour.

During the ceremony six candles will be lit for the six million Jews who perished, as well as candles for all of the other victims of Nazi atrocities.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who spoke at the event, read from a book by Nobel Laureate Patrick Modiano and drew comparisons with the current refugee crisis in Europe.

"And all those fleeing war and terror must be treated with compassion and respect according to our shared human and their rights under international conventions and the law," he said.

He also parised Holocaust Education Trust Ireland and their work in educating Irish people about the atrocities committed during WWII.
