A status yellow weather advisory remains in place this morning for eight counties.
The Met Éireann warning – for Dublin, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork and Waterford – is in effect until midday.
There is a risk of localised spot flooding in these areas due to heavy thundery downpours.
Today's showers will be heavy or possibly thundery, merging at times to give longer spells of rain.
It will be generally bright and sunny in between showers.
Winds will become fresh and gusty south to southwest during the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 11 to 14 degrees.
Showers will continue tonight, gradually becoming less frequent towards morning.
Southwest winds will be moderate to fresh, and temperatures will fall to between 5 and 9 degrees.
