The Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has launched an investigation in Co Clare after three men were injured when they were hit by a car during a pursuit by gardaí.
The incident happened in the village of Parteen at about 5 o'clock yesterday evening.
The vehicle pursued by gardaí struck a parked car, injuring three pedestrians. The pedestrians, who are all in their 70s, were transferred to hospital.
One of the pedestrians is reported to have had his leg amputated due to the injuries he sustained.
The two men who were being chased fled the scene and gardaí carried out a search of the area.
One man was later arrested and he is being questioned at Mayorstone Park garda station.
GSOC is calling for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
