A Garda is being treated in hospital after being assaulted in Co Louth.

It happened when officers responded to a call at the Bakehouse Apartments in Dundalk just after 5.00pm on Thursday.

The call was in relation to public order incidents.

When Gardaí arrived at scene a male officer was assaulted and received a facial injury.

He is being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda.

A man aged in his 50s has been arrested in relation to the assault.

A second man has been arrested for public order matters and has been detained at Dundalk Garda station.
