A man in his late 70s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming at Salthill in County Galway.
The alarm was raised around midday today at Blackrock Beach.
The man was brought ashore by a life guard, but efforts to revive him failed.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Galway, where a post mortem will take place.
