Four men are due to appear in court this morning, charged in relation to burglaries in Co Monaghan.

They were detained after a weekend chase, involving the garda helicopter.

At around 7.30 on Saturday evening gardaí responding to reports of suspicious activity in the Rope Walk and Belgium Park areas of Monaghan town saw a number of males fleeing a house.

They ran into nearby fields and, after a chase which included the garda air support unit, four men in their late teens and early twenties were arrested.

A car was also seized during searches.

The four men are due before Monaghan District Court this morning.

The men were all detained under Operation Thor, which targets organised crime and repeat offenders.
