The numbers enrolling in fee-paying secondary schools are up again, for the second year in a row.
The increase is seen as a sign that the economy is continuing to recover in the aftermath of the recession.
According to the Irish Independent, 60% of Irish private schools have reported a rise in pupil numbers.
Many schools have also hiked their fees, with the price now averaging between €4,000 and €7,000 a year.
The most expensive day school is St Columba's College in Rathfarnham in Dublin, where parents pay €14,832 for day boarders, or €12,426 for day pupils.
The Independent reports that the total number of fee-paying schools went from 55 to 51 between 2011 and 2014, with five schools entering the free education scheme. One school - Rockwell College in Co Tipperary - became fee-paying in 2014.
