Children’s hospital board “committed to delivering” the project

The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board has said it is "committed to delivering the new children's hospital."

The board is responsible for building the new hospital.

In a brief statement on Friday, it said: "The National Paediatric Hospital Development Board is committed to delivering the new children's hospital."

Trump declares national emergency to secure border wall funding

The US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will declare a national emergency in a bid to secure funding for his wall along the Mexican border.

Announcing the move outside the White House this afternoon, he said there are "tremendous amounts of drugs flowing into our country - much of it coming from our southern border."

Playing down the severity of the decision, he said similar declarations have been made by other presidents " many times before."

Psychiatric Nurses Association suspends strike action

The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) has suspended strike action it had planned for next week.

The PNA attended the Labour Court on Friday in relation to its ongoing dispute over recruitment and retention.

The court has suggested that the parties re-engage under the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) in order to resolve any outstanding issues, before returning to the court.

Tánaiste says Stormont talks ‘not straightforward’

The Tánaiste Simon Coveney has said talks to try and find a way forward for Northern Ireland institutions at Stormont were "not straightforward".

Mr Coveney met with the Northern Ireland Secretary of State Karen Bradley, as well as the five main political parties, on Friday.

Tweeting after the talks, he said: "Not straightforward, but shared sense of importance and urgency".

‘Dog Mode’ feature to keep pets from getting hot in Tesla cars

Car-maker Tesla is introducing a new feature - for dogs.

'Dog Mode' sets the car cabin at a temperature to keep a dog comfortable, while a message on-screen inside the vehicle lets passersby know they do not need to worry.

This is in addition to existing cabin overheat protection, which comes on automatically at high temperatures.
