Two teenage boys found guilty of murdering Ana Kriegel

Two teenage boys have become the youngest convicted murderers in the history of the State after being found guilty of murdering Ana Kriegel.

The jurors also found one of the boys guilty of aggravated sexual assault after deliberating for almost 14 and a half hours.

Ana's father Patric simply said: "Ana was our strength".

Her mother Geraldine said: "Ana was a dream come true for us, and she always will be."

The Central Criminal Court must have felt like an alien environment to the two boys who came before it for the first time back in April.

It also felt like unfamiliar territory to frequent visitors because of the efforts to effectively turn Court 9 in the Criminal Courts of Justice into a Children’s Court for the duration of what was initially set down as a six-week trial.

The judge and lawyers left their traditional black robes and wigs at home, the public gallery was closed and the dock was noticeably empty throughout as the boys were allowed to sit with their families in the back of the courtroom.

The Cabinet has approved an ex gratia payment of €20,000 for non-disclosure of the CervicalCheck audit.

The figure was reached after being examined by an independent panel.

This panel was chaired by Mr Justice Aindrias Ó Caoimh.

Aer Lingus orders new long-haul Airbus jets with just one aisle

Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus is to get six new long-haul planes from Airbus.

Its parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), is ordering six Airbus A321XLR aircraft for Aer Lingus and eight for Spanish airline Iberia - plus 14 options.

The first deliveries of the single-aisle jetliner are scheduled for 2023.
