High Court rules that it can't “second guess” Government over its climate policy

The High Court has ruled that it cannot “second guess” the Government over its climate policy.

This afternoon, the court recognised the severity of the climate crisis – but ruled that Government policy is a “matter for elected officials.”

The case, dubbed 'Climate Case Ireland' and lodged by Friends of the Irish Environment (FIE), argued that the National Mitigation Plan falls far short of what’s needed to tackle climate change.

Leo Varadkar to meet Boris Johnson in New York over Brexit

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said he will meet the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson next week.

Mr Varadkar says he has been in contact with Mr Johnson, and they hope to meet on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York.

They had their first face-to-face meeting in Dublin last week since Mr Johnson became leader in July.

A Dublin service station has been temporarily closed amid an investigation into a "pest control issue".

It comes after video footage of a rat rummaging in a loaf of bread in a shop deli was widely shared on social media.

The rodent is also seen scuttling over plastic cutlery and running behind a toaster.

Jump in number of fake goods coming into Ireland

There has been a major increase in the number of seizures of fake goods coming into Ireland.

Figures for 2018 show over 19,000 articles were seized by customs officials here.

That is up 50% on the previous year.

Ralph Lauren launches 'Friends'-inspired clothing line

US clothing company Ralph Lauren is launching a 'Friends' collection to celebrate the show's 25th anniversary.

It is, of course, also where the character of Rachel Green - played by actress Jennifer Aniston - worked for several seasons of the show.

The new line is being billed as a Wear-to-Work collection.
