Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight to Los Angeles.
The American, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the films, died in hospital where she had been receiving treatment after becoming unwell on the flight from London.
A statement from family spokesman Simon Halls said: "It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8.55 this morning."
Gardaí will use mass DNA screening to investigate alleged rape
DNA profiling is being used to narrow down potential suspects in an investigation into an alleged rape in Dublin.
Gardaí are understood to have chosen around 100 men for screening - because their cars match the suspect's vehicle.
The Irish Times says the attack was reported by a woman after a night out on December 11th 2015.
Israel reduces ties to countries who backed UN resolution on settlements
Israel has announced it is reducing ties with countries that voted for a UN resolution demanding an end to the building of settlements on occupied territory.
The historic vote has prompted Israel to call back its ambassadors in New Zealand and Senegal and cancel planned visits by Ukrainian prime minister Volodymyr Groysman and Senegalese foreign minister Mankeur Ndiaye.
It has also cancelled aid programmes in Angola and Senegal.
Gardaí investigating following discovery of man with serious head injuries in Dublin
Gardaí are investigating after the discovery of a man with serious head injuries in Dublin.
The man in his 20s was found on the Skerries/Rush road around 2km from Loughshinney in the early hours of this morning.
He has been removed to Beaumont Hospital and is said to be in a serious condition.
Human Rights Watch says IS 'summarily executed' 13 Iraqi people after village uprising
A human rights organisation has claimed that Islamic State militants 'summarily executed' at least 13 civilians - including two boys - following a village uprising in Iraq.
According to Human Rights Watch, the alleged killings took place in the villages of al-Hud and al-Lazzagah, 50km south of Mosul in October.
According to the group, around 45 people from the two villages attacked ISIS forces to clear them from their villages - killing 19 ISIS fighters.
