An elderly woman has died after a crash in County Longford.

The single-vehicle crash happened on the N4 at Lisnagrish, Edgeworthstown shortly after 4.40pm yesterday.

The 80-year-old woman was treated at the scene before she was taken to Tullamore Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Gardaí say the woman was the only person in the car.

Gardaí in Granard have launched an appeal for any witnesses of the crash to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage.
