Storm and flooding

Thousands of homes are still without power this morning following last nights stormy conditions.

The worst affected areas include Cork City and Fermoy in Co Cork, Clonmel and Cashel in County Tipperary - and parts of County Wexford.

Waterford, Wexford and Tipperary were also hit with flooding as well as Cork - where parts of the city were left under two feet of water.

The City Council is to hold an emergency meeting this morning to discuss the latest floods.

Gardai are urging motorists to take extreme care on the roads this morning as a large amount of debris was scattered by high winds and heavy rain.

Anglo Irish Bank

Evidence is due to get underway today at the trial of three former Anglo Irish Bank executives.

Sean FitzPatrick, Willie McAteer and Pat Whelan deny participating in a scheme to provide unlawful financial assistance to 16 individuals to buy shares in the bank in July 2008.

Fifteen jurors were sworn in last week.

More than 100 witnesses are to be called to give evidence and the jury has been told the trial could last up to 4 months.

David Black

A man will appear in court in the North today charged with the murder of prison officer David Black.

The 52 year old father of two was shot dead on his way to work in 2012 - he was the first prison officer to be killed in Northern Ireland in 20 years.

His killing was blamed on dissident republicans.
