It has emerged that some Dáil quotes appearing on a TD's constituency newsletter were never actually said.

A newsletter from Independent TD Eamonn Maloney contains four quotes from Dáil debates - only two of which were actually said in the chamber.

In recent weeks, Deputy Maloney has issued a four-page newsletter to homes in Dublin South-West, with the back page containing a 'Dáil report', with four issues he says he has highlighted in the chamber.

Each one of the four issues contains a quote in inverted commas, presented as if they were Deputy Maloney's contributions to those Dáil debates.

But an examination by Today FM has shown that of the four quotes, only two of the four were actually said in the house.

One is a combination of quotes from 2014 and 2015 - the second is from a debate in late 2013.

When asked about the other two quotes, Deputy Maloney's office said twice that the comments on the newsletter were spoken in the Dáil chamber, and it supplied us with dates for the other two.

But when this was checked, the records showed he had not spoken in the Dáil on either of those dates.
