Dubliners have been told to ‘Forget about showers today’ and minimise their water usage after a water main burst.

Crews of workers have toiled through the night to restore the water supply of some 40,000 properties and water supplies will be in place at key locations until 9am this morning.

Uisce Éireann Head of Asset Operations Tom Cuddy urged customers to keep their water usage to a minimum.

“People should not use water using appliances at all if possible - washing machines, dishwashers,” he said.

“And they should be minimal in their use of water for washing at all; showers, I think they should really forget about for one day and make the best use of water.

“Fill the basin; so use water sparingly.”

Mr Cuddy said repairs should be finished by 6pm this evening.

“Dublin City Council crews right across the city have been isolating different areas so that they can be back fed and minimising the area that is affected by this,” he said.

“But there’s still a very significant area that is affected by this.”
