A man aged in his 20s has been shot dead in central Dublin.

The shooting happened at the junction of Sheriff Street and Oriel Street at around 12.30pm.

Gardaí are currently at the scene, and an examination is underway.

There are reports he received gunshot wounds to the head, in a suspected case of mistaken identity.
