The Greenhouse Restaurant in Dublin and Loam in Galway have both received a Michelin star in the latest guide.

They join a distinguished list of six other Irish restaurants, including the two star-rated Patrick Guilbaud, which have received the culinary honour.

Two restaurants in Belfast, EIPIC and OX have also been awarded a star.

The news comes as details of the guide's latest edition have been leaked in Britain before its publication.

Unfortunately, two Irish restaurants have lost their Michelin star - Thornton's on St Stephen's Green, which first obtained it in 1996, and Bon Appetit in Malahide.

Seven Irish restaurants also received 'Bib Gourmand' awards, which recognise those who provide “good quality, great value food” and three courses for under €40.

Greenhouse is operated by Finnish head chef Mikael Viljanen and owner Eamonn O’Reilly, one of Ireland's best-known restaurateurs.

Loam, which works with local farmers to source the best seasonal produce, is the latest venture of chef Enda McEvoy, who previously obtained a Michelin star at Aniar, also in galway.
