Dublin Airport has relaxed its passenger arrival times advice following a “significant improvement in security screening queue time”.

Passengers are now advised to arrive two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul flight.

Anyone checking in a bag should arrive up to an hour earlier in either scenario.

Up to now, this summer’s advice had been for passengers to arrive two-and-a-half hours before a short-haul flight and three-and-a-half before long-haul.

Summer travel

The Defence Forces have been on standby to assist at the airport in case there was any repeat of the passenger chaos seen earlier this summer and Dublin Airport operator DAA said they are now being stood down.

“During July - Dublin Airport's busiest month in three years - over three million passengers flew in and out of the airport,” said DAA Chief Dalton Philips.

“99% of all passengers passed through security in under 45 minutes, while 90% of passengers queued for 30 minutes or less. In the first two weeks of August, virtually all passengers were through security screening in 30 minutes or less.”

'Incredibly challenging'

Mr Dalton thanked passengers for their support over what he described as an “incredibly challenging and turbulent time for aviation in general and Dublin Airport in particular.”

“Our team at Dublin Airport has been simply brilliant, everyone across the business has put their shoulder to the wheel through this difficult period and their cheerfulness and helpfulness has been regularly noted by our passengers,” he said.

DAA said it has almost doubled its security screening staff numbers over the summer – with 350 people hired in and the recruitment of more staff still ongoing.

Airlines are reminding passengers that need to check-in bags to “make themselves aware of the check-in desk opening times for their flight and plan accordingly”.
