Research continues to find that while the majority of household tasks are carried out by women, DIY is still seen as something for men to do.
But should it be?
On Moncrieff, journalist Saoirse Hanley argued that being able to perform DIY is “deeply attractive”, regardless of gender.
“When I lived with one of my best friends for years, Hannah, I remember once or multiple times our washing machine broke,” she said.
“But I remember coming home one day and she had a YouTube video in one hand and with the other hand, she was like unscrewing something and trying to fix it.
“It was eye opening to me that she could just do that; I think there's something so, there is something really sexy about somebody being able to just do something, to have it handled.
“It's so deeply attractive.”
Ms Hanley continued that while she remains a “little bit risk averse” with regards to DIY, it is “deeply satisfying” once you master it.
“Like I remember when I first learned to change a tyre on my car, I was like, this is revolutionary,” she said.
“Everyone should know how to do this; they probably do - but it was news to me when I first learned that it's actually quite an easy process.”
