The Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe has welcomed the new laws coming into operation on Monday. It now means that disqualified drivers will be arrested by Gardaí straight away if they are caught driving.

It's hoped the new measures will allow those who commit the offence to be dealt with - and brought before the courts at the earliest opportunity.

 Minister  Donohoe says disqualified drivers pose a serious risk to other road users.
