The Labour Party has said Ireland is in the grip of a ‘commuter crisis’ and the Government needs to do more to alleviate commuters’ woes.
The party has announced plans to introduce emergency legislation that will “provide workers with an immediate right to flexible work”.
Kildare South TD Mark Wall said that, “Congestion has exploded as more and more employers issued blanket calls for workers to return to the office. The Labour Party are clear, workers need a real right to flexible work to improve quality of life and to quell traffic chaos.”
On Lunchtime Live, Meath resident Jamie said his commute into the capital is highly unpredictable.
“Well, I work from home, so I only commute into Dublin once or twice a week for meetings,” he said.
“And usually an hour and a half to two hours, but I usually give myself two and a half hours because you just never know.”
When asked what would be a good solution to the 'commuter crisis' would be, Jamie said he believed he has the right balance between working in the office and at home.
“I already work from home, so I'm only going into Dublin once, maybe twice a week,” he said.
“And so that suits me and the whole company - everyone's fully remote.
“The whole company is work from home; we did it since COVID and it's working very well.
“It can be difficult to manage sometimes, but if the effort's put in, everyone's on board, it can be done.
