A man and woman are in hospital following an aggravated burglary in Kingscourt, Co Cavan last night.

Three masked raiders entered the house and assaulted the couple after 6.30pm yesterday evening.

The alarm was raised with gardaí at 8.00pm last night following the hour-long ordeal.

They men tied up the woman and assaulted her husband, who had returned home during the raid.

The couple were both assaulted by the gang and remain in hospital at Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda.

The raiders left the scene by stealing the couple's Land Rover - registration number '07 CN 3857'.

Gardaí say no other cash or property was taken, and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 042-96-945-70.
