Two people have been arrested on suspicion of withholding information regarding the murder of Ashling Murphy.
Gardaí investigating the murder arrested the man and woman, both aged in their 60s, yesterday morning.
They are being held at separate Garda stations in the east of the country.
It is believed their period of detention was extended today.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí investigating a fatal assault, which occurred in Tullamore on the 12th of January 2022, arrested a man and a woman, both aged in their 60s, on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 in connection with the investigation.
“Both were arrested on suspicion of offences contrary to Section 7(2) Criminal Law Act 1997 and were detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in the Eastern Garda Region.”
23-year-old primary school teacher Ashling Murphy was attacked and killed while out running on the Grand Canal near Tullamore on January 12th.
31-year-old Jozef Puska of Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, Tullamore, is currently before the courts charged with her murder.
