Socialist feminist group ROSA is organising an anti “manosphere” demonstration in Dublin City later today.
Posters advertising the event – which featured Elon Musk, Conor Mc Gregor and Donald Trump - were blocked by Dublin City Council (DCC).
People Before Profit TD Ruth Coppinger, who is closely affiliated with ROSA and due to speak at the event, said this was due to concerns that tourists would be offended.
The poster’s slogan reads, "Let’s take on MAGA, McGregor, Musk and their macho ilk".
“The reason that Dublin City Council gave in the email to ROSA for not allowing the poster was that, in particular, tourists could be offended,” she told Newstalk Breakfast.
“I think they were particularly aiming it at Donald Trump."
Deputy Coppinger hit out against this move as an act of censorship.
She also rejected that she herself had enacted censorship when she refused to speak to Gript media journalist Ben Scallan on the Dáil plinth yesterday.
Other journalists attending the press conference refused to further engage with Deputy Coppinger after she declined to answer a question from Mr Scallan relating to immigration.

“Gript is a propaganda for far-right ideas, it’s not a normal media outlet,” she said.
“It’s a spreader of disinformation - of racism in particular - which in my opinion creates a very dangerous environment for people of colour, minorities; for a lot of people that I represent, for a lot of people that I know.
“It spreads homophobia, transphobia.”
Gript Media response
Gript Media is a member of the Press Council or Ireland, whose code of practice explicitly prohibits incitements to hatred, homophonic, transphobic or any material that incites hatred towards vulnerable groups.
A spokesperson for the organisation said that the Gript Media has never breached the Press Council's code of practice.
“If Deputy Coppinger or any member of the public feels that Gript have breached this, they have the right to make a complaint,” they said in a statement.
“Gript Media reject Deputy Coppinger's assertions, completely.”
The protest is assembling at 5:30 today at City Hall on Main Street of Dublin.
