The vast majority of Irish people have “no business” staying in Adare Manor - or any other luxury hotel, a TikToker has argued.
Anne Sheeran posted a video about the matter on her TikTok page three days ago and it has since been viewed 3.7 million views.
The hotel describes itself as “one of Europe's best five star luxury resorts” and that it “sets the standard for elegance, fine dining and Irish hospitality”.
A one day stay in March will set an individual back at least €895, while the most expensive room costs €7,195.
On Lunchtime Live, Ms Sheeran explained why she feels only the super wealthy have any business staying there.
“Unless you're earning a very, very high salary or a person with a very high net worth, you really shouldn't be staying in these uber expensive, luxurious hotels because it's just not within everyone's reach,” she said.
“The kind of average salary in Ireland at the moment is around €50,000 a year.
“If you're staying in Adare Manor, it's going to cost you for a weekend, probably about two and a half grand.
“So, a night's stay there is about €900; two nights, plus dinner, drinks, all that kind of stuff - it's probably about two and a half grand.
“If you're on that higher tax bracket, you have to earn twice that. So, about five grand to stay there and that's about 10% of your annual salary.”
Ms Sheeran described that as “absolutely crazy” money for a weekend but she keeps seeing people checking into the hotel on social media.
“Social media in particular, it kind of makes things seem a little bit more prevalent and they're a little bit more normal than they are,” she said.
Ms Sheeran noted that there was recently a celebrity wedding at the hotel recently and presumes this has inspired people to book their own stay there.
“I started to see kind of later in the year, just like normal people's blogs appearing of a weekend away in Adare Manor,” she said.
“And I was like, this is insane.”
