Three men have been arrested following the discovery of a gun in Co Louth.

A handgun was found after gardaí searched a car at Greenacres in Dundalk, shortly after 9 O'clock yesterday evening.

A man (40) and two other men in their late twenties were arrested at the scene.

They are being questioned at Dundalk garda station, where they can be held for up to 72 hours.

Gardaí say their investigation is ongoing.
