€28 million is being spent on saving 1.6 million litres of water a day in the Dublin region.

Irish Water is replacing 73 kilometres of pipes which are more than 85 years old.

It is part of a national overhaul of the network aimed at improving supply and reducing leaks and wastage.

Around 200 kilometres of pipes have already been upgraded across the country.
