Over 100 people are dead in Gaza this weekend following fighting and air strikes in the Strip.

Some 13 Israeli soldiers died fighting in the Gaza Strip over the weekend.

Hospitals in Gaza have also claimed 90 Palestinians were killed in two Israeli air strikes.

Hamas previously claimed over 200 people had died in Palestine in the last 24 hours.

In central Gaza, tens of thousands have fled a refugee camp near Al-Barij following Israeli warnings about heavy fighting.

“Israelis gave us an ultimatum that we have three hours to evacuate,” one woman said. “We came here but we can't find any space.”

'Military pressure' on Hamas

US President Joe Biden discussed the conflict with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and emphasised the need to protect people, but did not call for a ceasefire.

Israeli Government spokesperson Mark Regev said Hamas will respond to “military pressure”.

“The military pressure is not only breaking up their military machine but at the same time it's giving them an incentive,” he said.

“They'll need a timeout they need a break in the fighting that could lead us to another hostage release - That's what we're hoping for.”

Aid in Gaza

Unicef says much greater access is needed for humanitarian agencies to get into the Gaza Strip.

“There are increasing numbers of children presenting with severe acute malnutrition,” Executive Director Declan Power said.

“About 80% of the people of Gaza just simply do not have enough food to eat and that's why it is critical that this UN resolution is complied with by all parties to the conflict.”

On Friday, the UN Security Council voted in favour of a resolution to speed up the delivery of aid to Gaza.

It also has requested the appointment of a senior UN official to coordinate and monitor aid delivery.

13 of the 15-member council voted in favour, while the US and Russia abstained.
