1,169 nurses have joined the Nursing and Midwifery Register since March 1st amid the coronavirus crisis.
While 385 are new registrants, 784 have returned to the register.
Under emergency measures to deal with the coronavirus crisis, any former nurses can be restored to the register without having to pay any restoration fees.
The Nursing and Midwifery Board (NMBI) said they’re “delighted” to see so many qualified nurses registering.
CEO Sheila McClelland said: ‘We are restoring qualified nurses and midwives who were retired and on career breaks from all over Ireland.
“Daily we deal with regulators and relevant bodies in Ireland and abroad to support faster processing of certificates of good standing, qualifications and language competency for those coming from the UK and beyond.
“Our staff are working hard on applications, resulting in up to 80 being processed daily.”
Tens of thousands of qualified and former healthcare workers have offered to return to work to help with the current crisis.
Over 60,000 people had answered a HSE call for help within days of the call being issued last month.
