More than 1-thousand inmates have escaped from a prison in the Libyan city of Benghazi.

Security officials say prisoners staged a riot inside the facility as it was also attacked from the outside.

Most escapees are facing serious charges.

It's not clear if the jailbreak was part of ongoing political unrest in Benghazi, which is one of the most unstable parts of post-revolution Libya.
