Every week, Darragh Doyle – a man who knows his way around the Internet – joins Sean Moncrieff live in studio to fill him in on all the most useful and uselessly amusing apps and sites he's found making his rounds online in the last seven days.
Here's what Darragh covered today...
- An opening video
Some kind soul spent three months making this version of 'Uptown Funk' sung by movie characters. Why did it ake so long? Well, it features over 280 movies - from Life of Brian and The Warriors to Rushmore.
A gold star for anyone who can name them all.
- Driver Test Routes
Driver Test Routes is an app designed to help you pass the driving test by helping you become familiar with frequently examined routes for the full Irish Driving Test.
It helps the learner driver navigate by using Google Maps and GPS on their phone - and each of the three manoeuvres (turnabout, hill-start and reverse around a corner) are marked on the routes, as well as the test centre location.
The app is free to download on Android devices (with sample routes) while the full version can be purchased in the app for €0.99 to access all maps. The IOS version is under development.
- Strong Language - a sweary blog about swearing
“If vulgar language offends you, then thank you. You’re one of the people who help maintain the effectiveness of vulgarities. You will very likely be offended by the articles in this blog.”
From researching the word Fart, to Emphatic Affirmatives to Mapping which swear words are said where in America the most, this is a resource that was created after a discussion on twitter about publications not using certain words…
- The Startup Business map of Ireland

So, like other crowd funding websites, it’s offering people the chance to post a project where friends, family and fans will be able to help fund the project.
- Pocket - Reading is Hard - listen to articles instead
Pocket is an app that allows you to save articles, videos or pretty much anything from your browser or 1,500 apps so you can read them later. You can have it on your phone, by a browser extension or just use the website.
Recently they’ve introduced their Listen product for iOS users - it’s been on Android a while - a hands-free way for returning to everything you’ve saved in Pocket.
You can start listening from anywhere in the article, skip paragraphs with ease, and adjust the reading speed for when you want to fly through an article or let it slowly soak in. Plus, it has automatic language detection, making Listen available in all languages.
