Irish Oscar nominee John Kelly has said he hopes the fact that the ceremony is due to be held two days before St Patrick’s Day is a “good sign”.
Mr Kelly’s short animation film Retirement Plans tells the story of a man, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who spends seven minutes discussing his looming retirement.
On Moncrieff, he said he watched the announcement live “between my fingers” at home.
Afterwards, he zoomed with the crew and said it was “lovely” to celebrate the nomination together.
“We’ll go over for that and it’ll be terrifying but exciting,” he said.
“I’m still processing it all.”
Mr Kelly added that the last time he won everything he was seven, when he came first in a colouring competition and was given a toothbrush as a prize.
