In these days of constant hand washing, we should remember John Gray, for we owe him so much.

Gray is perhaps the forgotten man on Dublin’s O’Connell Street, with his statue so often overlooked.

He was a man of some contradictions though; an Irish nationalist who believed in the repeal of the Union but also knighted. He was an individual who had a remarkable impact on public health, introducing a clean water supply into our capital and inspiring other Irish cities to invest in proper water supplies as well.
