Gardaí were called to a house in Longford town over the weekend after dozens of people had gathered to attend a party.
Up to 80 people are reported to have been attending a 21st birthday party on Saturday night despite social distancing warnings amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Officers were called to disperse the crowd "due to ‘public health’ concerns", they said.
Gardaí said that those in attendance left the house party without incident.
It comes as public health officials continue to urge people to exercise social distancing in an effort to flatten the curve during the coronavirus outbreak.
Local councillor Seamus Butler hit out at the young people who attended and said it is disgraceful to hold a party at this time.
He said: "This is serious, absolutely serious.
"They should be locked up because it is almost a case of attempted murder because this could kill people.
"People like that have shown an entire irresponsibility towards society in general and the full force of the law should be brought against these people."
In a statement, An Garda Síochána said it acknowledges that "the majority of the public are being responsible and making great efforts to implement ’social distancing’".
"However the presence of large crowds of small individual groups potentially reduces the effective impact of ‘social distancing’."
They also asked that people not attend popular areas, which comes after large groups of people were seen visiting beaches and walking trails around the country yesterday.
Despite this, the Taoiseach hinted today that the Government will not move to lock down parks and public spaces as part of its response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
