JD Wetherspoon has announced that Heineken will be served in its pubs in the UK, but Ireland's most popular draught lager will not be sold in the company's Irish outlets.

After a disagreement that centered around the stocking of Irish bars, Wetherspoon's had previously said that it would stop serving the beer in all of its 926 pubs.

Sources have told The Times (UK) that an agreement has been reached for UK pubs. The company will sell Heineken products including Beamish, Fosters and Symonds Cider in their Irish premises - but not the flagship lager.

The company had been selling pints of Heineken for €2.95 in its first Irish establishment - The Three Tun Tavern in Blackrock, Co Dublin - €2 below the average price in Dublin pubs.

JD Wetherspoon has been working with the brewery for over 35 years. Their contract is thought to be worth £60m (€76m).

The chain has signaled its plans to expand aggressively in the Irish market - aiming to open 30 pubs in the country.

The company currently has two locations in Ireland's capital. It has confirmed that it will invest €4m in developing a pub and hotel on Dublin's Camden Street and secured other Dublin locations in Swords and Blanchardstown. It has also acquired premises in Waterford and Cork City.
