I am old. There’s no denying that. My music collection ended sometime in the last century. Well, that’s not exactly true. I do buy stuff but the average age of the artist is the wrong side of 30.

OK, OK I am old.

It’s only a few months ago I discovered how easy it was the transfer those CD things on to the cloud.

In a nod to this thing called ‘rave music’ I dug out my triple cd Greatest Hits of Dance (circa 1989) and it actually worked. It even came up with a snazzy faux album cover to display itself on my itunes list.

ITunes?

That is sooo last week.

It’s now called Apple Music and it does something called streaming.

Allegedly, this isn’t new. I’ve even tried it myself. Those nifty Scandinavians offered me something called Spotify but my heart wasn’t in it. Yes, I found Johnny Cash dueting with Dylan but all that searching and trying to deal with green on black. I ran back to iTunes as it was still then.

So what did I discover? Of course I was drawn in by my ‘old’ tastes. The mixtape has me hooked even if that well known Karaoke Beatles band, Oasis, turns up on it every now and again. That’s what the forward arrow is for.

Discovery. That’s a good word. One of the things that I like about this Apple Music thing is I can discover what those young people are listening too without buying stuff. With all the fuss around her, I actually went searching for Taylor Swift.

I was surprised. I was expecting a post-Britney X factor wannabe. I know. I’m old and extremely judgmental.

Anyway. I was wrong. She’s quite good in a new country kind of way. I’ll listen to her again. And maybe again after that.

What I’m actually saying is Apple Music might make me pay more attention to chart music.

Beck seems quite good. When is the new Jedward album out? No, that is a line I will never cross.  On the other hand I might just end up streaming Sinatra 24/7

I’m old.
