Snapchat's stats have had advertisers salivating for some time, it offers a massively active young audience to sell to - but the company is conscious about tailoring its approach so that it doesn't alienate users.

Its 25-year-old CEO and founder Evan Spiegel took part in a public interview with Cosmopolitan editor Joanna Coles in Cannes and discussed the company's advertising experiments.

Other social platforms like Facebook have the advantage of being able to mine users' data to discover their interests and sell targeted advertising - people post less information on Snapchat, but Mr Spiegel says that he's not worried about this fact and that he hopes that Snapchat can make money without "being creepy."

The company is rolling out its own 3V - “vertical video views” advertising for the app.

"In the early days of Internet advertising, marketers relied on things like targeting to differentiate ad products that weren't very engaging," Spiegel says in the video launching the service.

In the past he has talked to Business Insider about how brands get social advertising wrong when trying to connect with customers, "I think it's very important to be friendly, but not a buddy" he told the site.

He says that 3V advertising will always appear in the context of "premium or curated content" - developed by their media partners or during its coverage of events like award shows and festivals.

Re/Code says that Snapchat could soon be making $400,000 from video advertisements mixed into the two billion videos watched on the app every day.
