Last year, the battle between Apple and the FBI dominated headlines. The case revolved around an iPhone, belonging to one of the San Bernardino terrorists. The FBI eventually managed to gain access to the phone, without the help of Apple.

This issue caused a substantial about of debate and while the conversations about the ethics of the case died down, it would appear that it's not yet all done and dusted.

Three news organisations have asked a US judge to force the government to reveal the cost of the technology to unlock the iPhone. In documents submitted to the court, the organisations stated there is "no adequate justification" for the FBI to withhold that information.  They stated that this information would not impact or jeopardise national security.

The FBI has never named the security firm or group of hackers who helped unlock the phone.

It was speculated that the FBI had paid at least $1.3 million to gain access to the phone, based upon comments made by FBI director James Comey, who said the agency had paid more to get into the phone than he "will make in the remaining seven years" of his post.
