Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with aggravated burglary and false imprisonment at a house in Co Cork.

The incident took place in the Carrigaline area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man allegedly entered the house with a large kitchen knife and went to an upstairs bedroom where he woke the occupant of the house.

He is then alleged to have verbally threatened the woman and threatened her with the knife while he directed her downstairs.

Gardaí say the woman was held against her will for around two hours before he left the house on foot.

She did not suffer any injuries and no damage was caused to the property.

The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested and brought to Togher Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He has since been charged in relation to the incident and is due to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court today.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
