A weather warning is in place for the Midlands as temperatures are expected to fall to -3 or possibly -4 degrees Celsius in some areas overnight.

The status yellow low temperature warning for Midland counties is in effect between 11pm tonight and 9am tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann is forecasting cold and dry conditions in most places overnight with clear skies and light winds.

Forecasters say there will be some scattered showers mainly in coastal fringes of the west and north, as well as the risk of an isolated shower later on parts of the Southeast coast.

Severe frost will develop amid lows of +1 to -4 degrees Celsius, with some fog developing in places later in the night.
