Residents of the Garvaghy Road filed an emergency injunction against the Orange Order's planned march down the street, asking the courts to overrule the Parades Commission's decision to allow it.
Protesters began gathering on the Garvaghy Road in Portadown shortly after their emergency injunction attempt was said to have failed.
The Parades Commission had given the Orange Order permission to march along the road for the first time in almost 30 years, but locals were not happy with the decision.
They filed an emergency injunction with the High Court in Belfast, and after hearings (reportedly three in total) went on until the early hours of the morning, the courts decided to uphold the Parades Commission's decision.
According to Alison Morris from the Belfast Telegraph, who is at the Garvaghy Road, thousands of people have shown up to protest the parade route, and blockades are already in place, many since the final decision was made.
She told The Pat Kenny Show: "I arrived here when it was still dark at about 5:30am in the morning and there were thousands of people already on the road, blocking the road at various different locations along the route.
"That sort of thinned out a bit this morning, and then there was almost like a sort of call to arms where one of the members of Sinn Féin stood up in the community centre and said, if we wait now, this parade will be pushed through and people have been charged back out onto the road.
"And there is biblical rain here. I mean, the people have been soaked through. Some of them are telling me they haven't slept in 48 hours. But there's a determination that this parade is not going to go through.
"The Orange Men gathered this morning at 8:00am, the time the Parades Commission said they could march and they have remained up in the church in Dumfries Hill since then."
The PSNI have since told The Orange Order that their parade cannot proceed as planned, and the police and members have gone into the church to continue discussions.
The Orange Order says they still plan to march today, but the Garvaghy Road remains blocked by the protest and there is no indication that this is going to end quickly.
