Two people have died in separate road accidents in different parts of the country this morning.

Gardaí in Naas are investigating a fatal collision which occurred at approximately 11am on the Rathcoffey to Maynooth Road in Clane, Co. Kildare.

A female cyclist in her mid-thirties was fatally injured when she was involved in a collision with a car.

A male in his late twenties was the sole occupant of the car and was uninjured.

The woman’s body has been removed to Naas General Hospital.

Earlier a woman in her fifties died following a crash in County Galway.

The collision occurred at around 08:30am this morning on the Killimor to Kiltormer Road, near Portumna.

The woman was fatally injured when the car she was driving left the road and struck a tree.

She was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at scene. Her body was removed to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to either accident to contact them on the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or at any Garda Station
